Safety, Health & Environment

Safety, Health & Environment

A key core value of Columbian Chemicals Company is safety.  Our vision for the safety of our employees is “Zero & Beyond.”  What does this mean?  Simply, zero injuries or illnesses to our employees on or off the job.

The only acceptable safety and health goal of Columbian Chemicals Company is to eliminate every injury and job-related illness. The only way this goal will be achieved is if all of us hold ourselves personally accountable for safety and exhibit a genuine concern for the well-being of our fellow employees.  We cannot and will not rely on luck to achieve our goal of Zero.

Over the past several years, Columbian has focused on minimizing and eliminating occupational injuries and illnesses. Our incident rate is the standard of the carbon black industry.  We will continually look for innovative ways to reach “Zero & Beyond” at Columbian, and we are always happy to share our best practices of safety and health with our customers.

An Environmental Steward (Think Globally, Act Locally)

Columbian strives to be a good neighbor and an environmental steward. Environmentally, this means that all our plants comply with or exceed all local and governmental environmental regulations. Being a good neighbor means that we consider the communities in which we operate to be key stakeholders in the company’s actions. When decisions are made and actions taken, the impact on the community is always a part of the decision-making process.

Environment

Columbian is committed to supporting organizations with a record of demonstrated, credible, environmental performance. Some examples include:

  • Projects that involve partnerships among industry, governmental and community-based organizations
  • Preservation of wildlife habitats and/or programs that address endangered species
  • Zoos, Botanical Gardens, Nature Centers/Museums, or school-based programs that provide educational experiences for students and families related to the natural world and its resources
